Terror Suspects Produced in Mangaluru Court

Express News Service

MANGALURU:Two terror suspects  arrested seven years ago were produced before the Third Additional District and Sessions Court here on Wednesday.

Ahmed Bava of Haleyangady and Mohammed Noushad of Subhash Nagar were arrested by the Mangaluru police on charges of giving shelter to Yasin Bhatkal and Riyaz Bhatkal, the founders Indian Mujahideen (IM) on August 3, 2008.

Three others were also arrested in the same case.

However, as Ahmed Bava and Mohammed Noushad are the key accused in giving shelter to the terrorists, Mumbai police had sought their custody.

Mangaluru police had handed over the accused to  Mumbai police six years ago.

After the arrest, it is the first time that the accused were brought to the city with police protection. When the police produced them before the court, the other accused — Jawed, Mohammed Ali and Rafeeq — who were released earlier also appeared. Though the three were arrested and remanded in judicial custody, they had got bail.

The suspects would be taken back to Mumbai by train on Wednesday night, police sources said.
