Karnad, Champa, Bhagavan Get Police Protection

BENGALURU:  A day after renowned Kannada scholar M M Kalburgi was shot dead in Dharwad, Bengaluru police posted guards at the houses of well-known writers Girish Karnad and Chandrashekar Patil.

“As a precautionary measure, we have provided armed security for them,” City Police Commissioner N S Megharikh told Express.

The police have also asked citizens to keep an eye out for anyone moving around suspiciously in the vicinity of the houses of writers and artists.

Prof K S Bhagavan, who had come to Bengaluru from Mysuru on Sunday, was also provided security. Bhagavan had criticised the Bhagavad Gita at a recent event.

The police social media monitoring cell is keeping an eye on those who post threat messages and share irresponsible posts. “If we find any serious and inflammatory posts, we will take action,” Megharikh said.
