UDUPI:  ‘Heli tourism’ will get a boost in the district as the helipad in Adi Udupi will soon have multi-purpose flying facilities, and private enthusiasts too can use them from Monday morning.

Though it was earlier planned to set up three helipads in the district, it has now been decided that the one helipad already existing in Adi Udupi will be offered for the time being, sources told Express.

Deputy Commissioner R Vishal told ‘Express’ that religious tourism is one area where there is a lot of potential for helicopter flights and that this needs to be tapped in Udupi.

The DC said tourism is picking up well in Udupi, and that this prompted him to come up with the idea of having private helicopter services here.

Sources told Express that Chipsan Aviation will be playing the facilitator’s role by operating their chopper.

The statutory clearances needed for the service has already been obtained by the company, they added.
