MYSURU: The dream of writers to see a museum in the restored house of writer R K Narayan on Vivekananda Road is finally being realised with his family members donating books, chair and other collections to the Mysuru City Corporation.
Narayan’s family members arrived in the city from Chennai with a collection of awards, spectacles, books, certificates, pictures of his wife, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan medals, a cot, a sofa, a dining table and chairs.
Narayan’s younger brother R K Srinivasan’s son Jayaram, visited the house of the writer which is being converted into a museum and held talk with MCC Commissioner Betsurmath.
Betsurmath said arrangements will be made to display the late writer’s belongings and added that Jayaram, who was staying with the writer in Mysuru was providing the sketch to arrange the belongings in the same way they were during the writer’s days.
He said that the renovation of the building is complete and works on landscaping of the garden is undertaken. He expressed confidence that the works would be completed soon.
It may be recalled that the two-storey house built in 1952, is renovated and is being converted into a museum. The structure had been partially demolished in 2011 and the MCC had purchased the property before taking up the renovation.
The MCC is also planning to constitute a committee to oversee the museum’s maintenance.
Betsurmath also appealed to the public to present anything gifted or collected from R K Narayan to make the museum richer.
