Karnataka cabinet rejig: 7 first-time ministers among 13 who took oath

Siddaramaiah has kept one seat vacant to meet political exigencies, the portfolios of ministers will be announced today.

BENGALURU: CHIEF Minister Siddaramaiah effected a major revamp of his ministry on Sunday by dropping 14 ministers and inducting 13, in which nine are of cabinet rank and four ministers of state with independent charge.

The ministers took oath at a ceremony held at the Glass House in Raj Bhavan. Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath of office to them.

Siddaramaiah has kept one berth vacant to meet political exigencies. The portfolios of the new ministers will be announced on Monday.

Kagodu Thimmappa, Ramesh Kumar, M R Seetaram and Santosh Lad are among the prominent Cabinet ministers, while Priyank Kharge and Pramod Madhwaraj, both first-time MLAs, figure prominently for the post of ministers of state.

Of the 13 new ministers, Ramesh Kumar, Ramesh Jarkiholi, Priyank Kharge, Eshwar Khandre, Pramod Madhwaraj, Rudrappa Lamani and M R Seetaram (MLC) are making their entry into the ministry for the first time.
