BENGALURU: The much-awaited Science Gallery is set to come up near Hebbal as the state cabinet on Thursday gave its approval to grant 1.26 acres of land on the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) campus in the city.

The Science Gallery will be set up by the Science Gallery International, Ireland, based in Trinity College in Dublin, and is estimated to cost around `25 crore.

The proposed gallery will be different from science museums in India as there will no permanent exhibits. Instead, exhibitions will be organised regularly. Live experiments, interactions with scientists, engineers and researchers are some of the special features of the proposed gallery.

The Science Gallery at Trinity College, Dublin, is known for physics while the one at King’s College in London is known for medical sciences. The gallery in Bengaluru will focus on IT and aerospace.

The cabinet approved a proposal to raise the maximum age limit for recruitment into Karnataka Police Service from 28 years to 30 years for SC and ST candidates. For general and OBC candidates, the age limit will be raised from 26 years to 28 years.

The cabinet also cleared a proposal for direct recruitment of 68 assistant directors, 373 agriculture officers and 169 assistant agriculture officers in the agriculture department. The selection will be based on marks obtained in academics and score obtained in a written test to be conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority.
