BENGALURU: Even after the state government adopted a watered-down Karnataka Private Medical Establishment (KPME) Bill, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) is unhappy. It now wants Governor Vajubhai Vala to defer the Bill and bring government hospitals under its ambit. In a meeting held on Sunday, IMA members decided to approach the High Court over this.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier met the protesting doctors and various medical associations and met their demands. The demand for bringing government hospitals into the Bill was, however, not discussed. Though the health minister had assured that government hospitals will be governed under a separate law, IMA wants government hospitals to be brought under KPME.Public health activists have constantly argued that since there is no question of profiteering in government hospitals, the KPME cannot be applicable to them.
