Sailor from Mumbai found dead at Karwar naval base

A 29-year-old sailor of Mumbai Naval Base was found dead at INS Kadamba naval base dockyard in Karwar on Saturday morning, said police.

KARWAR : A 29-year-old sailor of Mumbai Naval Base was found dead at INS Kadamba naval base dockyard in Karwar on Saturday morning, said police.

According to Karwar Rural police, the deceased is Sujit Kumar of Uttar Pradesh. He had come to the Karwar base in INS Ganga to participate in a war practice from Saturday.

On Friday night, he reportedly went to attend nature’s call in INS Ganga and fell into the sea. As he fell on the ship’s anchor, he suffered a head injury and died on the spot. His body was found floating in the water on Sunday morning.

Police said Sujit is survived by his wife and a child.

‘War’ games in Arabian sea

About 12 warships of Western Naval Command and Eastern Naval Command have begun their week-long war practice in Arabian sea, about 200 nautical miles off Karwar cost, on Saturday.

Warships from Eastern Naval Command (headquarters in Visakhapatnam) and Western Naval Command (headquarters in Mumbai) reached INS Kadamba Naval base in Karwar on Friday.
