Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah orders probe into death of forest guard in Bandipur fire

BENGALURU: Two days after a forest guard died while trying to douse a forest fire in the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered a Forest Department report on the incident.

The chief minister took them to task for the death of guard Murugappa Gowda due to asphyxiation and burn injuries in a forest fire left three others injured, including a Range Forest Officer in the Kalkere range of the Bandipur Reserve.

Following the death, Murugappa Gowda’s relatives staged a protest in Mysuru, demanding safety equipment for forest personnel and also compensation for the victim's family.
