BENGALURU: Universities across the nation have been asked to set up a department to study Devanagari script. A circular in this regard has been issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has invited proposals from the universities about this.

As per the circular, courses related to Devanagari script will be introduced at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. “This is to promote our oldest script. Younger generation have no knowledge about the Devanagari script and it is time to introduce them to it,” said a senior UGC official.
