Karnataka youth arrested for allegedly disrespecting national flag on social media

The accused Nashir Ahmed allegedly posted photoshopped pictures of the Indian national flag along with uploading pictures of Virat Kohli in a woman’s attire.

HAVERI: A youth was arrested in Savnur of Haveri district on Wednesday for posting pictures allegedly disrespecting the tri-colour in social media. He was produced before JMFC Court in Savanur which has remanded him for judicial custody.

The accused Nashir Ahmed, son of Babajansab Doddamani of Hattimattur village in Savanur taluk allegedly posted photoshopped pictures of the Indian national flag. He also uploaded pictures of Virat Kohli in a woman’s attire.

When the pictures went viral, villagers in Hattimattur informed the police. Police arrested Nashir Ahmed after holding discussion with the villagers.

The police have registered a suo moto case against Nashir Ahmed under IPC 153 A under charges of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and under Sec 295 A.

This is the second such incident reported from Savanur town, after police had arrested a mason for celebrating Pakistan’s victory in Champion's Trophy on June 18th.
