Karnataka-Goa Income Tax office become fastest to reach revenue targets

BENGALURU:  The Income Tax Department in Karnataka-Goa region has become the fastest among the regional offices to achieve its collection targets for the year 2016-17, said Nutan Wodeyar, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax.


She said the region will exceed the collection targets set for the regional office, as it has already met its targets by March 16. While tax-collection target was `85,478 crore, which included tax deduction at source, the office had collected `86,299 crore by March 20. Tax collection has seen an overall increase by 22.48 per cent from the previous financial year.


She said this was the first time that targets were reached ahead of schedule. “We have been able to achieve this despite manpower shortage,” she said.


Of the sanctioned strength of officers, there is a shortage of 57 per cent personnel. The per capita collection by the personnel was `42.56 crore.


On the break up of tax collected, he said that of the total amount collected, Goa contributed about `4,600 crore. Of the 18 regional offices in the country, Bengaluru is set the highest target after Mumbai and Delhi regional offices, he said.


Co-operative banks

Ravindchander R, Director (Intelligence and Criminal Investigation) said several co-operative banks are yet to file their annual returns. Of the 307 banks, 264 have filed their returns.
