BELAGAVI: The Legislative Council on Wednesday unanimously passed the Karnataka Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (Amemdment) Bill, 2017 and the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Bill, 2017. Both the Bills were passed in the Assembly last week. While the first Bill will facilitate holding Kambala and other sports involving animals, the second bans certain superstitions from being practiced.

No fund shortage for UKP
The government clarified in the Council that there was no dearth of funds for taking up Stage-3 of Upper Krishna Project though there was no separate allocation in the budget. Law Minister T B Jayachandra, speaking on behalf of Water Resources Minister M B Patil, said the funds allocated for irrigation projects can be spent on UPK Stage-3 if the situation demands. The minister said the project includes 75,563 acres covering backwaters, 6,467 acres to rehabilitate 20 villages.
