Rs 12 crore sought to compensate for GST

HASSAN: The district administration has urged the state government to release an additional grant of `12 crore to be remitted as GST for Commercial Tax Department towards `175 crore released by the state government for Mahamastakabhisheka works.

Interestingly, over 8 per cent of the total grants will go in GST.The departments has to remit the GST before completion of the project. The senior officials in the PWD, KRDCL, KUWS, Health and family welfare, fire force, KSRTC, CESCOM, Tourism, Horticulture and Kannada and culture departments are in a dilemma to execute the works as they have already prepared an action plan for development works without calculating the GST.

Minister A Manju said he has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to release an additional `25 crore to compensate the extra burden of GST. The CM is positive in this regard, he added. District officials have also written to the state government requesting  GST exemption or release of an additional grants to compensate GST. A senior officials said the government should give GST exemption for the religious event which is held on an international scale.
