BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has requested Union Power Minister RK Singh to supply coal to thermal power stations in Karnataka as per the agreement.
Siddaramaiah along with Energy Minister DK Shivakumar met RK Singh at New Delhi on Thursday and submitted a memorandum. In the memorandum, Siddaramaiah said the state has thermal power stations at Ballari and Raichur which together generates 70 million units of power a day. Both the power stations have faced a shortage of coal and gas supply, now reaching a super critical stage.
As per the agreement, between April and September this year, Singareni Coal Mines, Mahanadi Coal Fields Ltd and Western Coal Mines Ltd has not supplied the full requirement of coal.
The CM has urged the Union Minister to direct these undertakings that come under the Union power ministry to supply the required coal to the state-run thermal power stations. The CM also urged Singh to allot Ghogarpali and dip side of Ghogarpali coal blocks in Odisha for supply of coal.
