Karnataka Congress MLA's son is undertrial prisoner 1756

Mohammed Haris Nalapad, and his six associates, accused in an attempt to murder case, were remanded in judicial custody till March 7.

BENGALURU: Shantinagar Congress MLA N A Haris’ son, Mohammed Haris Nalapad, and his six associates, accused in an attempt to murder case, were remanded in judicial custody till March 7 by a city court, on Wednesday evening. Following this, the seven accused persons were shifted to Parappana Agrahara central prison. Mohammed Nalapad is now undertrial prisoner number ‘UTP 1756’. Mohammed, and his six associates were arrested by the Cubbon Park police on Monday morning for allegedly assaulting 24-year-old Vidvat Loganathan, at Farzi Cafe in UB City, on Saturday night.

They were remanded in police custody for two days on Monday. Vidvat’s father Loganathan had written to the Chief Secretary requesting that advocate Shyamsundar M S be appointed as Special Public Prosecutor in the case. The government approved his request.

When produced before the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Nrupathunga Road at 4.30 pm, Mohammed appeared unrepentant, even glaring at Shyamsundar when the latter requested the court to remand the accused in judicial custody. The court adjourned the hearing of the bail plea of the accused till Friday. Mohammed’s advocates had filed the bail petition on Tuesday and it was taken up on Wednesday.
