BENGALURU: The schemes and loan waiver announced for the differently-abled was declared as ‘minimal’ and ‘inadequate’ by Karnataka State Disabled and Caregivers Federation president G N Nagaraj on Thursday.
Nagaraj, when contacted, expressed disappointment that the government had not announced the setting up of a task force for implementing
Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPD) Act 2016. “Since there is price rise, the monthly pension of differently-abled should also have been increased,’’ he said.
He welcomed the government’s decision to carry out a socio-economic survey of people with 21 types of disabilities, an opening of a training centre for special teachers, supporting those keen on studying in foreign institutions and establishing a treatment centre and ‘touch-sensitivity garden’ in 20 acres identified near Beggars Colony.
As against the claims that Rs 4 crore grant to waive loans would help 664 beneficiaries who had availed loans from National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation, Nagaraj says only few would be benefitted.
Solar Park capacity enhanced
The biggest solar park in Asia, the Pavagada Solar Energy Production Unit is generating 600 MW of power catering to the needs of various sectors in Bengaluru. Giving a fillip to this green source of renewable energy, the production capacity of this unit will be enhanced to 2000 megawatts in the coming days.
