MYSURU: The state irrigation department released 15,000 cusecs of water from Kabini reservoir to Tamil Nadu following heavy downpour in Wayanad in Kerala. Kabini reservoir with 30,000 cusecs inflow has registered increase of 30 ft in the last four days taking reservoir level to 2,280 ft as against maximum of 2,284 ft. Irrigation officials have discharged 15,000 cusecs into river Kapila which flows to Tamil Nadu. With the discharge of water from reservoir it would help meet Tamil Nadu’s demand for water and that would bring down tension between the riparian states. Irrigation officials are monitoring inflow at water gauge station at Bawali round the clock. Kabini reservoir level that was 2,248 during last year is likely to be full in the next couple of days, bringing respite as it caters to drinking water needs of Bengaluru, Mysuru and other towns.

KRS level crossed 90.8 ft on Thursday as against maximum of 124.8 ft. The water level is likely to further increase following inflow of 30,000 cusecs following heavy rains in Kodagu.Laxman Threeta tributary is in full flow adding 6,500 cusecs of water into the reservoir. There are also reports of increase of inflow into Harangi.
