Karnataka: Rs 20 crore sanctioned for areas hit by floods

MANGALURU: Revenue Minister R V Deshpande, inspecting the flood damages at Mangaluru on Thursday, said that the state has sanctioned Rs 22 crore for rain-affected areas in the state and district administrations are instructed to carry out rain damage mitigation on war-footing.

He held a review meeting with all government departments, elected representatives and public at Deputy Commissioner’s office.Addressing media persons later, Deshpande said that he had issued orders to all deputy commissioners to keep Rs 5 crore to meet emergencies related to rains. As per central government guidelines, we are assessing the damage to rain across the state since entire state except Bengaluru received rains above normal level, he said.

Under disaster relief funds, the kin of victims who died due to rains could be compensated Rs 5 lakhs including Rs 1 lakh grant from Chief Minister’s fund.  Earlier, the minister inspected the flood affected houses at Anegundi.
