KCET won’t be deferred: Karnataka Examinations Authority director

BENGALURU:  Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) executive director Ramya S said the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) will not be postponed on Sunday, despite a clash with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

She said several factors had affected this decision, including the KCET timetable being published three to four months ago as opposed to the CUET timetable which was published only a month ago. “The timetable had been published prior to the CUET timetable, so the authority will not be postponing the examinations.

The overlap between students writing the CUET and KCET exams on the same day is also very small to warrant postponement, and the issue could have been resolved if candidates had approached us earlier. However, with only one day left, it is impossible to postpone the test,” she said.

Students had stated that many had been contacting the helpline to report the issue with no help and that the helpline number provided did not work. However, the KEA executive director rubbished the claims that the helpline wasn’t working.

“Initially, we would receive around 20,000 calls a day regarding issues with the admission process and hall tickets. We have attended every call and as issues have been resolved, the amount of calls received have reduced also. Currently, we receive around a hundred calls a day and we attend all of them. The helpline has not been down throughout this period,” she told TNIE.
