PATHANAMTHITTA: NSS general secretary P K Narayana Panicker has said that he accepts the challenge thrown in by Vellappalli Natesan on proving over-representation of  backward community people in government services.

Inaugurating the Nair Sammelan, organised by the Pathanamthitta NSS Taluk Union here on Monday, Panicker said that the backward community people were enjoying the privileges of over-representation in government jobs for the last 15 years. Panicker said that the authorities were hiding the real figures of reservation benefits with ulterior motives.

CENTRAL, STATE GOVTS’ BETRAYAL:  Narayana Panicker said that both the Central and State Governments were betraying the poor among the forward communities.  The Central Government amended the Constitution many times for by-passing the Supreme Court verdicts on reservation issues, including the appointment of a permanent commission for fixing the creamy layer among the backward communities who receive the reservation benefits and against the reservation in high-technology jobs, especially in IITs, services and IIMs. Likewise, the State Government, either the LDF or the UDF, had taken the Nair community for granted, he said.

Panicker asked the community members to be cautious while exercising their franchise. They should think of their future generations before exercising their voting rights, Panicker said.   He said the new awakening among the community should be a warning to the political parties who took advantage of their strait-forwardness.  ``Honesty and strait-forwardness should not be considered as a weakness,’’ he said.

NSS Taluk Union president and treasurer P N Narendranathan Nair presided over he function.  NSS assistant secretary G Sukumaran Nair delivered the introductory address.  Former Minister and Pathanapuram NSS Taluk Union president R Balakrishna Pillai delivered the key-note address. NSS director board members N V Ayyappan Pillai and Harikumar Koyickal offered felicitations.

Earlier, a massive rally, in which thousands of community members participated, was taken out from District Stadium to the new Municipal Private Station.  Wearing traditional dress, thousands of women gave a special attraction to the procession. Panchavadyam, pancharimelam and chendamelam were the other attractions.
