KOLLAM: Writer, journalist and educationist Vrindavanam G Venugopal, 75, died at his residence in Ayathil, near here, on Friday. The body was cremated on Saturday.  Venugopal started his career as a clerk in the Health Department and had also worked as a teacher at Govt. Victoria College, Palakkad. He resigned the job to contest in the general elections held to the Kerala Assembly in 1965 from Thiruvananthapuram 1 constituency. He had worked as a sub-editor in the Kaumudi, Kerala Kaumudi daily and as the managing editor of Viswa Keralam daily.

He also worked as Kerala unit convener of the All-India Small Newspapers Association for two years. He had authored a few books including the biographies of K.Karunakaran and R.Balakrishna Pillai. Venugopal is survived by wife Suguna Bayi, daughter Sreelekha and sons Sanalkumar, Sreekumar, Sanjayan and Sanakan.
