KANJIRAPALLY: Braving heavy rains, thousands of people joined to witness the opening of the landmark mini civil station here Sunday. The five-floor unique structure in typical Graeco-Roman architectural format was dedicated on Sunday by Works Minister P J Joseph.

Revenue Minister K P Rajendran declared the opening of various government offices, which were shifted into the new premises, on the occasion.

The inaugural ceremony was preceded by a colourful cultural rally led by Alphons Kannamthanam MLA, who had created a record of sorts in realising the completion of the building much before the stipulated time through personal monitoring and motivating all those involved in the project.

Even heavy downpour which came while the rally was progressing didn’t dampen the joyful atmosphere.

In his inaugural address, P J Joseph said that it was indeed notable that the structure had come up after taking a deviation from the usual governmentgoaded design, even when the same infrastructure of the PWD was put to use. Against this backdrop, the mini civil station building is a model worthy for emulation, he said.

A galaxy of dignitaries, including Anto Antony MP, district panchayat president T N Ramesan, CPM district secretary K J Thomas and others were present.
