Janata Dal (S) state president M P Veerendrakumar has made yet another scathing attack on CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing a party district convention here on Saturday.
Already at loggerheads with the LDF and the national leadership of the party, the JD(S) faction led by Veerendrakumar organised the convention as part of its bid to take control of the Kannur unit of the party.
JD district president P P Divakaran and others owing allegiance to the national leadership kept away but the convention held at the Police Auditorium near the Kannur Town police station, however, was peaceful.
Veerendrakumar said Pinarayi was interested in teaching his party workers “the politics of Faris Aboobacker as memories of its past political culture have become a burden to the CPM”. The likes and dislikes of Pinarayi are being imposed on the LDF. Referring to Pinarayi’s “move to induct
Jose Thettayil in the Cabinet,” he wondered why the former was taking no steps to give a ministerial berth to Congress (S) leader Kadannappally Ramachandran, who had been long been with the CPM.
The JD state council, scheduled to be held in Kozhikode on July 12, would chalk out the party’s future course of action, he said. On the expulsion of JS state secretary Krishnan Kutty from the post by national president Deve Gowda, Veerendrakumar said only the state president could remove the secretary under the party constitution. Krishnan Kutty would be reinstated in the post, he said.
V K Kunhiraman presided over the meeting.K P Mohanan MLA, Padmaja Bharathan, P
Valsaraj, M Ahamed, O P Sreeja and K V Koran were among the Veerendrakumar loyalists who attended the convention.
