ALUVA: The construction of a windrow composting plant, a `45lakh project, was inaugurated by Fisheries and Registration Minister S Sarma at a function held here the other day.

Around 50 biobins, costing `15 lakh, would also be installed in the wards within a couple of weeks. The dumping of waste and garbage at junctions and on road sides had drawn flak from all sections of society.

The improper and unscientific maintenance of the municipal dumping yard and regular failure on the part of the contractors in transporting the garbage from the town had put the residents to untold miseries.

The municipal council at last decided to solve the garbage issue permanently by introducing modern technology to treat the garbage.

The municipal council succeeded in mobilising sufficient funds from the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) and Suchitwa Mission, municipal vicechairman V Salim said.

The inaugural session was presided over by chairperson Smitha Gopi.

Standing committee chairmen K V Sudhakaran, Gregory Joseph, T T Geroge and Francis Thomas, councillors V P George and Jyothis Babu and municipal secretary T P Satheesan spoke.
