THIRUVANATHAPURAM: FOUR children from Kerala have been chosen for the National Bravery Awards such as the Geetha Chopra Award and Bapu Gaidhani Award, informed Kerala State Child Welfare Committee general secretary P Krishnan in a statement issued here on Monday.

The prestigious Geeta Chopra Award was bagged by Jismi P M of Perinjeri, Thrissur, for saving a woman and her two children from drowning in the Pulippara pond.

Jismi is a Class IX student of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at Cherppu. This is for the firsttime that a child from Kerala is bagging the esteemed award.

The Bapu Gaidhani Award went to Vishnu Das, a PlusOne student of Sree Sankara Oriental Higher Secondary School at Lakkidi.

Vishnu saved two children from drowning at Lakkidi.

However, the children's mother drowned in the incident. Vishnu is the only son of Ramdas and Sharmila.

Nineyearold Anoop M from Kainakari East in Alappuzha was given the bravery award for saving a fiveyearold from drowning in the 'Vattakayal' into which she fell, while on her way back from school.

Anoop, who was walking behind the girl Lena, jumped into the water and saved her.

Anoop, son of Madhusoodanan Nair and Umadevi, is a student of the Chambakkulam Bishop Kuriyalancheri Public School.

Raj Narayaran, a student of Class VIII was given the bravery award for saving a Class X student Kevin Kuruvila from drowning in the Nilamperoor CherukaraKainadi bridge.

The mishap happened when the shutters of theThannermukkom bund were opened. The awards will be presented at New Delhi, during the Republic Day celebrations, P Krishnan informed.
