KOCHI: Senior advocate of Kerala High Court and freedom fighter P Balagangadharan Menon, 89, of Pullayil, died here on Friday.

Menon was an active trade union worker who took keen interest in promoting cultural activities.

He is son of the late Vailoppilly Narayana Menon.

He had worked as vice president of the Ernakulam Karayogam.

Menon, who was credited for being the first president of the Antharashtra Pusthakotsava Samiti, had also served the Kerala History Association as vice president.

He had also served as president of the Indo- Soviet Cultural Council. Balagangadharan Menon was also involved in the activities of the Lions Club, the Productivity Council and the Bar Council.

Many prominent personalities, led by Justice Krishna Iyer, paid homage to Menon.

The Antharasthra Pusthakotsava Samiti condoled the death.

Padinjare Thottakattu Aniyathi is Menon’s wife and Vijayalakshmi and Usha are children. K Shankarankutty (FACT - retired ) and Dr B Venugopalan (director, Museum of Natural History, New Delhi) are sons-in-law.

The cremation will be held at the Ravipuram crematorium at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
