ALAPPUZHA: The State Government is all set to launch a ‘labour bank’ web portal. The  portal, to be launched at the state and local level by Akshaya, will have details of various labourers like coconut climbers, carpenters, plumbers, farmers, electricians and servants.

If anybody wants labourer service, they just need to log on to the Labour Bank’s portal and they can access the details, including contact numbers of the labourers near their area. The  portal will be ready within six months. If a labourer wants to include his full details in the labour bank’s portal, he just needs to contact his nearest Akshaya centre. He can register his name by paying just Rs 5.  Earlier, the details of labourers were planned to be included in the portal of ‘Ente Gramam’.

Ente Gramam project to be renewed

The State Government has decided to give a new lease of life to the ‘Ente Gramam’ (My Village) Project. The project will be implemented through the Akshaya e-centres in all local bodies in the state.

With the new version of the ‘Ente Gramam’ project, people can lodge their complaints with the local police stations online. Villagers can interact online with superintendents of police, sub inspectors,  panchayat presidents and secretaries, sitting in their homes. Akshaya director Korath V Mathew told Express that they had given a new modus operandi for implementing the ‘Ente Gramam’ project.

The project will be implemented in a self-sustainable model by the local self-government bodies in the state. The Akshaya, in association with the Society For Promotion of Alternative Computing and Employment (SPACE), will give all the technical support for the  project. Earlier, the project was fully  funded by the UNESCO in association with Akshaya and SPACE. A local body needs to shell out below Rs 10,000 for developing a portal in Malayalam under Ente Gramam project. In these two initiatives, Akshaya is using free and open source software and using Malayalam as a means of communication.  “We have selected  80 grama panchayats in Kozhikode district for implementing the new version of ‘Ente Gramam’ project. The details of the project have already been discussed with the authorities of 22 grama panchayats where the project will be executed by July 31,” Korath V Mathew said. The project has already been implemented in 81 local bodies of Kannur district and in some selected local bodies of Malappuram, Thrissur and Kollam districts. Under the ‘Ente Gramam’ project each web portal covers detailed information of the panchayat like history of the land, governance, information on public services, geography, Kudumbashree, farming and tourism.
