KOLLAM: Noted Kathakali actor Kalamandalam Ramachandran Unnithan has been selected for the sixth Kalamandalam Hyderali memorial Kathakali award instituted by the Vendar Subrahmania Swamy temple advisory committee.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5001, citation and memento. Temple advisory committee president Jagadeesh Thulasi and secretary S Vimalkumar said the award presentation ceremony would be held on the temple premises on January 19 on the occasion of the “Thyppooyam” festival. The endowment for the best Kathakali music student in the district will also be distributed at the function.
Sreevalson J Menon will present Carnatic vocal after the function. On Thypooyam day on January 20, Swarnakavadi procession, kavadiyattom and Majorset Kathakali will be held.
Kalamandalam Sankaran Empranthiri, Oyur Kochugovindapillai, Varanasi Vishnu Namboodiri, Chavara Parukutty and Kalamandalam Gangadharan were the winners of the award in the previous years
