KOTTAYAM: A rousing reception was given to the Kerala Mochana Yatra led by Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy in his home district of Kottayam on Thursday.

The yatra began on at Kanjirapally on an upbeat mood. Large crowds and party workers attended the yatra at Pala, Ramapuram, Pampady, Changanaserry and, finally, at Kottayam.

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the reception meetings at

Pampady and Kottayam.

UDF leaders K M Mani, M P Veerendra Kumar, T M Jacob and A N Rajan Babu, Congress stalwarts P P Thankachan and M M Hassan spoke at various meetings.

DCC president K C Joseph MLA, vice-president Thomas Kallani and KPCC secretary Joseph Vazhakkan led the proceedings.

Chandy repeated his charge that the LDF government has made life miserable for the masses and is neck-deep in corruption whether it is the lottery or the snatching of tribal land issue.

The government has also cheated the youth by not initiating a proper probe into the appointment scam, he said.Meanwhile, owing to the massive participation of party supporters and the resultant slowdown in its course, the yatra was running behind schedule in almost all centres in the district.
