THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The Bhutan Government has decided to terminate the lottery agreement with Santiago Martin, 'Business Bhutan', a Bhutan daily, said on Friday.

The paper quoted Bhutan Finance Secretary Lam Dorji as saying that the Bhutan Government decided to reach a mutual termination agreement with Santiago Martin since the government was getting concerned over the legal irregularities reported against Martin and that the government did not want the issue to affect the good relations between Bhutan and India.

"'Two weeks ago, the Directorate of Lottery, Bhutan, contacted Martin over the phone and informed him of the government's decision to terminate the lottery agreement due to all the controversies. The lottery agent agreed to a mutual termination," Lam Dorji said in the report.

The paper said that Bhutan lottery operations will be discontinued in India for the time being.

The Finance Ministry, however, did not rule out the possibility of the agreement being reviewed again, the newspaper said.
