KATTAPPANA: An expert team consisting of members from the Central Soil and Material Research Station (CSMRS), New Delhi, will resume the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) test at Mullaperiyar dam on Tuesday. The team will reach Kumily on Monday night.

The expert team under the empowered committee conducted the ROV test last month but owing to some technical failure in the laser segment of the machine the test was interrupted. According to Irrigation Department executive engineer Daniel George, the new parts of the machine has arrived from France and it will be installed on Tuesday. Other prescribed tests will be taken out later and its report will be submitted by August first week.

Sources said CSMRS team includes scientists Alex Varghese, Brinda Pratap and assistant Shivcharan. Technical experts Sushil Kumar and Raghavendra will also arrive to deal with any technical faults developing in the machine. The test will continue for 20 days.

A study on environment for the new dam will conduct this week.

The study will be on the impact of the new dam on environment and forest which is said to be built in the Periyar Tiger Reserve located 1330 ft below the current Mullaperiyar dam.
