ANGAMALY:  The campus of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology in Karukutty near here is hosting a two-day technical expo -IGNIZ 2011. VSSC senior scientist V P Balagangadharan inaugurated the two-day event on Friday.

The expo has been organised by six different engineering departments of the college. The highlight of the Civil Engineering Expo was the ‘Pelago Rio Taniyre’ (Ocean, River and Earth) explaining the causes of river, bridges and marine deposition. Erosion and  deposition features of rivers and seas were best represented using a model of entire features.

The priority based Power Controller put forward by the Electrical Department is a solution to power-cuts.

The Electronic and Communication Department named the Expo as ‘Estrado’ which contained exhibits like cell phone detector which detects incoming and outgoing calls and messages from cell phone within a radius of 5 meters. The ‘Fire Finding Robot’ programmed by the Computer Science Department was also a major attraction.

The public relations wing of ISRO also participated in the Expo enlightening the viewers about its recent developments including its future plans to use re-usable launch vehicles and the next Chandrayaan equipped with rovers to collect specimens.

Students from nearby schools visited the Expo.
