THRISSUR:  As part of promoting cluster-level farming of vegetables, Minister for Agriculture K P Mohanan installed a seed vending machine at the KSRTC bus stand here on Friday. To get a packet of seeds, one has to insert a ten-rupee note into the machine.

The project is being implemented as part of the Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Yojna project to boost vegetable production in the state. Fifteen types of seed packets are available in the machine.

It is programmed in such a manner as to dispense the seed packets according to the requirement of the customer.

The seed vending machine is the result of researches and discussions with a number of Indian and international companies over the last three years. Seaga, a Delhi-based company, has been KAU’s partner in developing and installing the seed vending machine at Vellayani.

The Agriculture Department had installed some machines at various places in Thiruvananthapuram the other day.

Therambil Ramakrishnan MLA presided over the function.
