K C Sebastian, 63, former Deputy News Editor of ‘The Indian Express,’ died at a private hospital here on Sunday. He had been unwell for sometime; however, he was alert and active till the end.
He is survived by wife Annie, (teacher), daughter Shilpa, (freelance content writer) and siblings Sr FCC Acasia, K C Joseph and Thressiama Abraham. The late Chacko Kulathinal and Annamma are his father and mother. He joined ‘The Indian Express’ as a sub-editor.
A journalist with independent views, Sebastian was always active in the news desk, recalled his former colleagues at the ‘Express.’ “He was dynamic and competent. He was innovative in designing and page layout. He was capable of handling various editions and always led from the front,” they said.
He worked over 11 years for the Express Group in various capacities and stepped down as deputy news editor of the daily. Later, he joined as the Chief Editor of ‘Indian Communicator.’
He had also worked as the consultant editor of several publications and was a member on the editorial committees of several publications during that time.
A member of the Senior Journalists Forum, he had published anthology of poems in both Malayalam and English.
The body will be kept at his house for public viewing here on Tuesday.
The body will be handed over for medical studies as per his last wish, informed his daughter.
