The police are still clueless about the background of Harihara Varma, 59, who was found dead in a house at Puthoorkkonam here on Monday.
They also didn’t make any headway in tracing the accused. Though the police team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Putta Vimaladitya had extended the investigation to the neighbouring states Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, they could not trace the accused so far.
There were reports that the team questioned the son of Haridas, who also reportedly engaged in selling precious stones. But the police did not confirm the report.
Haridas Varma, a lawyer and the middleman of the deal to sell diamonds and rubies during which Varma was killed, was also present at the time of the crime.
“Tracing Varma’s background is the major hurdle,” a police source said. Varma’s deals in real estate and other sectors, his link with a woman in Palakkad are also being investigated.
The revelation by the ‘Valiya Kottaram’, Mavelikkara members that the deceased had no connection with the royal family and the finding that the stones which Varma tried to sell were not costly, deepen the mystery of the case.
