The Advocate-General of Kerala on Tuesday granted sanction for initiating contempt of court proceedings against DYFI state president M Swaraj in connection with the controversial speech against the judges who sentenced M V Jayarajan for six months’ imprisonment.
AG K P Dandapani issued the order while considering a petition filed by Raju P Nair, Palluruthy, seeking sanction for initiating criminal contempt of court proceedings against Swaraj.
The petitioner pointed out that at a public meeting held in November last year at Erattupetta, Swaraj made a controversial speech against judges who convicted Jayarajan in a contempt case. Swaraj tried to demoralise the judges in public, by making the derogatory remark ‘shumban’ which was found to be a contumacious word by the High Court, the petitioner pointed out. The petitioner submitted that Swaraj also repeated the remarks in another public speech and produced the visual of the speech.
