Surgeons allege irregularities in Sahakarana Hrudayalaya

Express News Service

Triggering another controversy, cardiac surgeons at the Sahakarana Hrudayalaya, a unit of the Pariyaram Medical College, have come up with an allegation that there have been serious irregularities in the functioning of the Hrudayalaya.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the cardiac surgeons led by Dr Kuldeep and Dr Prasanthan said that the equipment purchased by the CEO of the hospital, K V Surendranath, were of substandard quality. The purchase of equipment without the required quality caused heavy loss to the Hrudayalaya and this was done without the knowledge of the doctors, they alleged.

The doctors said that there were irregularities in the accounts of the Hrudayalaya. The loss of the unit was estimated at Rs 25 lakh but on a detailed examination later, the loss was shown as Rs 6 lakh. The doctors asked the CEO to explain what happened to the Rs 19 lakh when the loss was examined later. The cardiac surgeons have been boycotting surgeries at the hospital since Thursday in protest against the decision of the management to cut down their salaries. The management had slashed the salaries of the doctors by 35 per cent.
