Mathsblog turns hot pick of teachers, students

Mathsblog, that caters to the needs of the students and teachers across the state, has changed its tagline to one of the most visited blogs in a regional language, with a whopping 20 million visitors.

Launched in January 2009 by two Maths teachers of Ernakulam district - Hari Kumar from KPMHS Edavanakad and V K Nizar from HIHSS Edavanakad, near Vypeen, Mathsblog (www.mathsblog.in), is currently manned by six school teachers.

It acts as a platform for teachers to hold discussions and clarify doubts on teaching as well as service matters. There are forums where the teachers can ask questions and doubts over various subjects. Discussions based on Kerala high school syllabus, both English and Malayalam medium, are conducted in the blog.

“We have a wide spectrum of visitors from students to school principals to DEOs. The major attraction is that all the services are offered free of cost. Now the blog has six administrators. The interesting part is that we administrators haven’t met personally. All the interactions are done online,” said Hari Kumar. It also provides services like educational materials prepared for high school teachers, important notifications, circulars and government orders, results, and news and pro-forma related to the Department of Education.

The blog, initially formed exclusively for Mathematics-related posts and discussions, later moved onto other subjects following the overwhelming responses it received. “Earlier, to clarify the doubts regarding pay revision anomalies or salary processing, we had to consult with some experts in the field. It is rather a time-consuming process and not always a convenient option. Now, it is only a matter of posting your query in the blog. The other followers will reply and give directives to complete the procedures,” says Valsala Kumari, an English teacher from Kottayam.

The blog offers other facilities like SMS alerts, educational news and a portal to register complaints regarding ICT equipment.
