Niranam panchayat president K P Punnoose and co accused Vimal Raj will be sent to jail from police custody on Friday, in a case related to possession of Yugoslavian currency collected in the name of charity work. The police investigation team said that Yugoslav Dinar is not valid in India since 1994, but the accused seemed to be unaware of this. “The accused had tried to cheat people using the currency notes”, police sources said.

Meanwhile police interrogated three persons, all of them residents of Tirunelveli, who are suspected to be mediators of the currency exchange with K P Punnose and Vimal Raj. Duraiswami, Sayvar Sedh and Thyagarajan were interrogated at Tiruvalla police station on Thursday, and the police have collected the details of transactions carried out with Vimal Raj.
