Award to be instituted in memory of Thakazhi

 An award will be instituted in memory of Thakazhi Sivashankara Pillai for the best short story in Malayalam from this year.

 The decision was taken at the meeting of the Thakazhi Memorial administrative committee held here on Tuesday.

 The award carries a cash award of Rs 10,000 and a citation.

 The first award will be distributed on April 17, the birth anniversary of Thakazhi, informed committee secretary Sreekumar Valiyamadom.

 ‘Thakazhi sahithyolsavam’ will be arranged at Thakazhi as part of the birth anniversary from April 10 to 17.

 Sreekumar said that the committee would submit a project to renovate the Thakazhi museum with an estimated amount of Rs 55 lakh allotted from the Tourism Department.

 The construction of an auditorium near the museum will begin from March.

 Committee chairman S Balakrishnan Nair presided over the meeting.

Secretary Sreekumar Valiyamadom, Tourism Department district project engineer Sreedevi, committee members A N Puram Sivakumar, B Josekutty, Thakazhi Ayyappakurup, N Gopinatha Pillai, Bindhu Byju, and Ambalappuzha tahasildar T R Azad spoke.
