Demand for CBI probe into Prajitha's death

Express News Service

The demand for a CBI probe into the mysterious death of 23-year-old Prajitha, of Valiyakkakathu, Beypore, at her husband’s residence in Vellayil is gaining momentum as the police probe has not made any headway. Poura Samajam Kerala (PSK) had put forward the demand for a CBI probe into the death alleging that the Vellayil police neglected the complaint seeking an investigation into the death which happened two years back.

PSK general secretary K A Laila told City Express that they will hold a 48-hour-long fast stir in Kozhikode raising the issue. “We have already staged a fast in front of the City Police Commissioner’s office, however no action has been taken yet. As part of our agitation, we will file a complaint before Chief Minister Oommen Chandy too,” she added. On November 23, 2011, Prajitha died at the residence of Vinayan Thekkarakamparambu. According to the complaint filed by the parents of Prajitha at Vellayil Police Station, Prasanth, brother of Prajitha, had received a phone call around 10.45 pm on the day from a relative of Vinayan informing him that she was being admitted to the Medical College Hospital and was asked to reach there immediately. When he reached there, she was dead.

According to the complaint, the victim’s husband took her to a private hospital first instead of the General Beach Hospital, which is near to their house, and from there to the Medical College. There were injuries on her body and on the back of her head. Later, her relatives filed a complaint before the Vellayil police station seeking a probe to uncover the mystery behind the death.

“The parents of Prajitha, who belongs to poor fishing family in Beypore, had submitted umpteen memorandums before authorities and top police officials to initiate a probe into their daughter’s death, added Laila. Their only demand is to bring the culprits behind the incident before the law. As their demand is a genuine one we have extended our support,” she said.

At the time of her marriage, Prajitha’s parents had given 23 sovereign gold in ornaments, all of which were later sold by Vinayan. He used to physically abuse her demanding more dowry. However, Prajitha never informed her relatives the harassments, said the complaint. The couple has a fourand- a half year old son.

Vellayil police officials said that they had conducted a probe into the death and had not found anything unusual.
