Sreekumar tortured me, says Nambi Narayanan

R B Sreekumar, former DGP of Gujarat, was indeed involved in the plot against him in the infamous Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO )

Express News Service

R B Sreekumar, former DGP of Gujarat, was indeed involved in the plot against him in the infamous Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO ) espionage scandal, according to ISRO former scientist Nambi Narayanan.

Nambi Narayanan’s comments have come in the wake of the BJP accusing Sreekumar of levelling charges against the Narendra Modi -led Gujarat Government in return for giving him a clean chit in the ISRO espionage case.

Nambi Narayanan had accused Sreekumar, who was Intelligence Bureau (IB) deputy director at the time of the spy scandal, of torturing him.

“I don’t know the politics of the BJP statement. But I know that I had lodged my complaint against R B Sreekumar, who was the Intelligence Bureau deputy director, and Mathew John, the joint director, 15 years ago,” Nambi Narayanan said here on Friday.

Nambi Narayanana further pointed out that top officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had later concluded that the ISRO spy case was a fabricated one.

The ISRO scientist was falsely charged of leaking confidential information to two Maldivian women in 1994.

The CBI dismissed the charges in 1996, and the Supreme Court had upheld the CBI’s conclusion in 1998.

In September 2012, the Kerala High Court had upheld a ruling by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that Nambi Narayanan be paid an amount of Rs 10 lakh as interim relief.
