Kerala Soaps and Oils Ltd ties up with Japanese firm

Kerala Soaps and Oils Ltd, one of the PSUs under the Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Ltd, which is on a comeback trail on the strength of an ambitious revival plan, has tied up with a Japanese firm to market its products in Japan.

Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty handed over the documents for exporting the consignments based on the agreement, to Toshiyuki Inaki,representative of Ueda Co Ltd,Japan at a function held here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Kunhalikutty said that the feat of a state-owned company bears testimony to the fact that the public sector can indeed perform very well and notch up impressive results.

A new toilet soap manufacturing plant was installed in 2010 in the once struggling company, eventually inching to its past glory. A slew of well-received and once popular brands-Kerala Sandal,Thrill, Vep and other products have been brought out in new packs now. The total turnover of the company in the past three financial years has grown to Rs 4 crore. The turnover expected in this year is Rs 10 crore. Kerala Soaps’ products is now available in the South Indian markets and in the Gulf region. Noted actress Kavya Madhavan is the brand ambassador of the company’s products.

“The tie-up with the Japanese firm is an approval for the acceptance of the quality of Kerala Soaps’ products at the global-level,” Kunhalikutty said. The company is keen to expand the reach of its products further,” said Febi Varghese,managing director,KSIE. The document transfer ceremony was presided over by KSIE chairman Mayin Haji. V Sasikumar, general manager (soaps), KSIE, and KSIE director board members were also present.
