Both the UDF and the LDF pin hopes on the post-poll calculations in the Alappuzha Lok Sabha Constituency, where large number of turn out of voters and undercurrents are counted as winning factors by both the fronts.
While United Democratic Front candidate K C Venugopal has exuded confidence about winning with a huge margin, LDF candidate C B Chandrababu expressed satisfaction over the poll.
This time, the percentage of polling slightly decreased from that of 2009. In 2009, the percentage of polling was 79.37 whereas it was 79.05 per cent in 2014 .
However, there was an increase in the number of voters turned up for polling compared to 2009.
Of a total of 12, 61,739 voters in the constituency, 9,97,123 cast their votes this time. In 2009, the number of voters in the constituency was 11, 39,537. Of this, 9, 08, 360 votes were polled. In 2009, K C Venugopal won the election with a margin of 57,635 votes.
The number of female voters, who cast their votes, was higher than the number of male voters in Alappuzha, this time.
Women Voters
Around 5,17,699 women cast votes on Thursday in the constituency, while 4,76,362 men exercised their franchise.
The Left Democratic Front leaders on Friday said that in the 2011 Assembly elections, the front had won six seats under the Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of over 10,000 votes in five segments. This trend has appeared in the Lok Sabha polls too, and it will reflect in the result, they said.
The UDF leaders said the development activities initiated by Venugopal were reflected in the polls. They expressed hope that his winning margin will increase this time.
Highest polling was recorded in the Aroor Assembly segment with 84.42 per cent this time, while the lowest polling was recorded in Karunagappally with 75.98 per cent.
