THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With a set of suggestions to reconstitute the structure of cinema- related bodies / institutions which come under the government, the five-member Adoor Gopalakrishnan panel set up by the State Government will submit its report to the Cinema Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan  on Wednesday.

“The report will contain a set of suggestions by the panel after it analysed the current situation in the Malayalam film industry. The government will study the suggestions in the report and then take a final decision,” the minister told ‘Express’.

The government is expected to implement these steps in the next two to five years, he said.

The committee consisted of filmmakers Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Shaji N Karun, producer and Kerala State Cultural Welfare Board chairman G Suresh Kumar, Congress leader and former minister Pandalam Sudhakaran and Cultural Affairs secretary Rani George. A source close to the panel said that  many suggestions have been made to reconstitute the structure of cinema-related bodies / institutions.

‘’The report has given focus to the  structure and functioning of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), Kerala Cultural Workers Welfare Board, Kerala State Chalachithra Academy as well as the film festivals like IFFK and the IDSFFK. The panel has made suggestions to reorganise the functioning of these bodies ,’’ said the source. ‘’The main objective of the panel was to work out guidelines to rectify the current shortcomings in the Malayalam film industry in order to get a good opening to the national-international level,’’ said the source.

The other suggestions of the panel are about archiving of Malayalam movies and the subsidy schemes. ‘’Since past three to four years, about 99 percent of the movies are being made in digital format. But till then all the movies were made in old format. Hence an archives section is important and this has been suggested in the report,’’  the source said.

According to the source, the panel has suggested to increase the subsidy given to Malayalam movies. ‘’The Maharashtra model subsidy system has been suggested in the report. As per the Maharashtra model, the subsidies are given to the film producers, under two sections named ‘grade A’ and ‘grade B’,’’ said the source.
