Sheila had Stood Her Ground

NEW DELHI/THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sheila Dikshit’s return may change the political equations in Delhi Congress. Sources close to her said, she may write a book, which is the trend among retired politicians. BJP’s Shahnawaz Hussain in a tongue-in-cheek response said, “Now she may work for her party.”

In her meeting with Rajnath Singh on Monday, Diskhit had said that she prefers Kerala and not Mizoram or any other state the Centre wants her to move. Later, in a meeting with the President, who is a close friend of hers, she finally veered around the point that it is better to demit office rather than making a mess of things by entering into a feud with the Modi Government or buying more time.

She had consistently stood her ground, when the NDA government tried to coerce her to quit by throwing a dossier of corruption charges related to the Commonwealth Games scam. “I can fight my own battles,” she had told ‘Express’.

She would return to Kerala on Wednesday as scheduled by an evening flight from New Delhi.

Dikshit, reeling under the Delhi Assembly poll debacle, took over as the 22nd Governor of Kerala on March 11, when the UPA-II government decided to give her a cozy accommodation in Raj Bhavan here. She is now waiting for the formal acceptance of her resignation, followed by an official notification, to leave Kerala.
