THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Johny Tom Varghese hailing from Kozhencherry, Pathanamthitta, has stood eighth in the Civil Services examination. He plans to opt IAS and prefers to work in Tamil Nadu. ‘’No particular reason for that. I’ve studied and worked in Tamil Nadu,’’ Johny said.
The 27-year-old is also the topper from South India. Since 2010, Johnny has been in New Delhi nurturing the Civil Services dream, and for the past two years he has been employed as research assistant at the Institute of Social Sciences there. A friend from JNU called him up with the good news on Thursday. “I was not expecting my rank to be so high,’’ he said.
He is the third and youngest son of Rev George Varghese and Annie George Varghese. His sister Ida Ann Varghese is a doctor and lives in Texas and his brother Georgy Sam Varghese in employed at Oracle in California. Johny did his graduation in mathematics at the Madras Christian College and did his PG Diploma from Coimbatore.
Medha Roopam, daughter of Gyanesh Kumar, Resident Commissioner of Kerala in New Delhi, has secured tenth rank in the Civil Services Exam. She is the girl topper hailing from Kerala. She has studied in Naval Public School, Ernakulam, and the St Thomas Central School, Thiruvananthapuram, where she was head girl.
She is a national-level Rifle Shooter and has won Gold medal in Kerala Rifle championships. She sat for the Civil Services exams after graduation from St Stephens College, New Delhi, in Economics (Honours). She has a sister Abhishri and a brother Arnav Anand.
