The LDF is finding it difficult to defend the allegations that ‘payment candidates’ were fielded in five constituencies, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.

Inaugurating the UDF Ernakulam constituency convention here on Saturday, Chennithala urged that the LDF should give an explanation regarding the allegations of ‘payment seats’.

The Home Minister also urged the CPM leadership to reveal the report submitted by the party’s Commission, which probed the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan. “CPM leaders do not have the courage to release the report,” he alleged. “Allies are leaving the LDF one by one and the CPM would lose its status as a national party after the Lok Sabha election,” he added.Chennithala urged Congress men to work sincerely for the polls and to be vigilant. “Confidence is essential for going ahead. But leaders should keep in mind that overconfidence is not good. All should be united in this situation,” the former KPCC president said. DCC president V J Paulose presided over the function.

Ministers V K Ibrahim Kunju, K Babu, MLAs V D Satheesan, Benny Behanan, Dominic Presentation and Ludy Louis, UDF district chairman M O John and Socialist Janata Party district president Augustine Kolenchery were present.
