Express News Service

After a prolonged internal power struggle, the Communist Marxist Party (CMP) on Saturday finally split with the party faction led by K R Aravindakshan and politburo member M K Kannan walking away with several other senior leaders, snapping its 25-year-old ties with the UDF. The decision was taken at the politburo and central council meetings of members associated with the Aravindakshan faction held here.

The Aravindakshan faction also announced that they would work for the success of the LDF candidates in the Parliament elections.  The central council meeting also deputed the politburo to explore the possibilities of seeking an alliance with the LDF, said M K Kannan.

Kannan said there is no point in continuing its ties with the UDF, in which the Congress is backing the C P John faction in the CMP.  Kannan said the party would approach the LDF without any conditions.  The central council meeting also decided to convene a special convention of party members here on March 30 in which the formal announcement on snapping of ties with the UDF will be made, said Aravindakshan.
